Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has denied that the Italian Serie A club has opened talks over the possible signing of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira this summer. According to him via his quotes made available by Italian media portal La Repubblica, the Lazio official shut down the widespread rumours that the capital club is in talks to sign the Uruguay international.
Lucas Torreira is all set to face Peru and this comes as a boost for Uruguay to win the quarter-final of Copa America on Saturday. The midfielder from Arsenal has again jointed his team in training at El Salvador after he suffered from an illness which involved weight loss and vomiting. Torreira who is twenty-three years old doesn’t have a part in 1-0 win against Chile as Uruguay managed to finish at the top of the Group C with 7 points. The late goal from Edinson Cavani has given them 3 points and the champion of 2011 is still unbeaten after the 4-0 crushing of Ecuador in the game against Japan that ended in a draw.
Torreira said that he managed to train normally along with the team and is feeling a little better. He mentioned that he spent 2 days in bed with vomiting, fever, and headache. However, he is recuperating. Torreira goes on to say that he has lost about 3 kilos and it has been a difficult time for him. Nevertheless, now he is feeling better and he believes that he is going to be prepared for the game. Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has given the reason behind him picking the number 11 shirt with the north London club. The Uruguay international signed for the Gunners on a permanent deal from Sampdoria last month and he has now joined them for the final part of pre-season after return from a World Cup break.
Speaking to Sport 890, Torreira revealed that he had initially fancied the number 34 shirt but the jersey was already taken up by Granit Xhaka. As such, he decided to pick the number 11 shirt which would offer him the opportunity to sit next to Mesut Ozil in the Gunners’ dressing room, he said: “I wanted to pick 34 but it was already taken by [Granit] Xhaka. I chose 11 because it’s the day of my birthday and I will get the chance to sit next to Mesut Ozil in the dressing room. It’s incredible when you go to the dressing room and see your locker is glued to that of Mesut Ozil who is a World Champion and a player with a fantastic career.” Continue reading “Lucas Torreira explains decision to pick the number 11 shirt”
