Uruguay national team player Lucas Torreira was one of those missing for the Gunners during their Premier League clash with Chelsea. The Uruguay international was not named in the Arsenal squad for that London Derby encounter with Chelsea.

Torreira spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid in the Spanish league and he has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer. The Uruguay national team midfielder was part of the Atletico Madrid squad that ended the drought for a league title last season. Atletico Madrid ended their seven-year wait for the league title by winning the Spanish La Liga title ahead of both Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Torreira said that he managed to train normally along with the team and is feeling a little better. He mentioned that he spent 2 days in bed with vomiting, fever, and headache. However, he is recuperating. Torreira goes on to say that he has lost about 3 kilos and it has been a difficult time for him. Nevertheless, now he is feeling better and he believes that he is going to be prepared for the game. The return of Torreira to fitness is going replenish the stocks midfield which had been damaged by the forced withdrawal of Matias Vecino from the tournament because of an injury in the hamstring.
Speaking to Sport 890, Torreira revealed that he had initially fancied the number 34 shirt but the jersey was already taken up by Granit Xhaka. As such, he decided to pick the number 11 shirt which would offer him the opportunity to sit next to Mesut Ozil in the Gunners’ dressing room, he said: “I wanted to pick 34 but it was already taken by [Granit] Xhaka. I chose 11 because it’s the day of my birthday and I will get the chance to sit next to Mesut Ozil in the dressing room. It’s incredible when you go to the dressing room and see your locker is glued to that of Mesut Ozil who is a World Champion and a player with a fantastic career.”
