Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur made his Premier League debut for Tottenham Hotspur during the home game against Southampton on Wednesday night, but it was not a happy one for him after his team led twice before finishing the game with a defeat.

Tottenham Hotspur made two major signings during the just concluded winter transfer window and they were both from Juventus. Uruguay national team star Bentancur and Swedish winger Dejan Kulusevski were the two arrivals at Tottenham Hotspur during the abovementioned winter transfer window.

Uruguay midfielder Bentancur had made his Spurs debut during the FA Cup fourth round win over Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend in a game that ended 3-1 in favour of his new team, while Swede Kulusevski was an unused substitute. However, both players came on as a substitute in the second half of the Southampton game for their respective Premier League debut. Bentancur played the final 30 minutes after coming on for Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on the hour mark, Kulusevski featured for the final 14 minutes as a 76th substitute for Brazilian winger Lucas Moura who provided the assist for the second Tottenham Hotspur goal.

The first half between Spurs and Southampton ended in a 1-1 draw after the goal from Chelsea loanee Armando Broja cancelled out the own goal from Southampton defender Jan Bednarek. Spurs took the lead for the first time in the game with Lucas Moura providing the goal for South Korean international Son Heung-Min with twenty minutes left on the clock.

With the goal from Son, Tottenham Hotspur were on their way to a customary home win over Southampton until the visitors struck twice in two minutes to win the game. On both occasions, England international James Ward-Prowse swung in a devilish cross that led to the Saints finding the back of the net through Mohamed Elyounoussi and then Che Adams to win the game 3-2.
