Atletico Madrid star player Diego Godin has sprained his ligaments in his left ankle in Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.
The Uruguay international was at the centre of the defence on the night where the La Liga side defeated their German opposition.
Robert Lewandowski was restrained throughout the game by the watertight defence in which Godin was part of. Godin finished the game with an injury. It is unknown if the player would feature in the clash against Valencia in the La Liga on Sunday. Uruguay might miss out on the defender when they play Columbia and Venezuela next month in the World Cup qualifiers.

There are reports in South America that star striker Luis Suarez might be unavailable when Uruguay play Columbia. The reports say Barcelona have given permission for Suarez to do an interview a day to the Columbia game, meaning there’s an agreement with the Uruguay FA for the player to miss the game. The club’s spokesman denies such claims.
“These rumours are completely false; there is absolutely no pact involving Suarez. If his national team manager calls him up and he is fit to play, he will do as normal,” the Spokesman claimed.
Atletico Madrid confirmed after the match that Godin picked up a sprain to the ligaments in his left ankle.
“After a first exploration from the medical services of the club, Diego Godin suffers a sprain of the lateral ligament of his left ankle. Additional test will be performed in the next hours and is pending evolution,” the statement from the club regarding the injury said. The Madrid-based side were brilliant in the game against Bayern. They remained resolute and the sole goal from Yannick Carrasco was enough to earn them three points. a
