URUGUAY DEFEATS RWANDA U17

The Uruguayan araguayan national team claimed an important victory over the Rawanda U17 side recently. The only goal of the game in Mexico came five minutes into injury time as Uruguay goalkeeper Jonathan Cubero's hopeful free-kick up field found Leonardo Pais, who headed home.

Rwanda started the game well and had much of the play in the midfield early on, coming close to scoring with two free-kicks from captain Emery Bayisenge.

The first hit the post, with Cubero beaten, and the second curled over the crossbar.

GERMANY TO PLAY URUGUAY

Germany are set to play Uruguay after a date has been decided for the same. It will be a repeat of the third-place match at last year's World Cup in South Africa in one of two friendly matches announced by the German football federation.

The federation says Germany will play France on Feb. 29 in the northern city of Bremen, in the renovated Weser stadium. It will then play Uruguay on May 29 in Sinsheim, at the stadium used by Hoffenheim.

URUGUAY JOINS WITH ARGENTINA

Uruguay and Argentina are set to use the 2011 America Cup to promote their credibility for the 2030 World Cup.

On July 1930 the first World Cup was organised and played in Montevideo with Uruguay beating Argentina in the final 4-2, thus also becoming the first country to win the Cup, sources said.

Argentine Sports minister Claudio Morresi visited Montevideo over the weekend to begin coordination activities with his Uruguayan counterparts from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports headed by Hector Lescano.

URUGUAY STAR SUAREZ STARTS LIVERPOOL JOURNEY

Uruguayan star Luis Suarez has begun his Liverpool career in the most spectacular fashion. “The first thing he said to me was to be patient,” Suárez said. No wonder. It took Forlan eight months and 27 games to score his first goal in English football. It took Suárez all of 13 minutes.

It was a test of nerve under the floodlights. On as a substitute, still playing his way into the game, he sensed an opening. Setting off from inside the centre circle in anticipation of Dirk Kuyt’s pass, he sprinted clear.

CLUBS STILL LOCKED IN FIGHT FOR URUGUAY STAR

Major clubs across Europe are still locked in a major fight for Uruguay Star Luis Suarez. Both clubs are reportedly locked in a battle for the Uruguay star with Ajax initially said to be holding out for around €20 million for his signature.

However, the Dutch giants now appear to be after closer to €23 million for their prized asset and both Liverpool and Spurs seem prepared to stump up the cash.

URUGUAY COACH ROBBED

Uruguay coach has been robbed of some $500,000 in a bank fraud. Police officials confirmed the incident on Wednesday and said a domestic employee, Tabarez's sister and brother-in-law were being held. Officials would not confirm the amount, but suggested newspaper accounts was accurate. The newspaper El Pais said the unnamed domestic employee had been making withdrawals since 2008.

Matias Faras, a top official of the Uruguayan Football Association, said he did not expect a comment from Tabarez.

LIVERPOOL INTERESTED IN SUAREZ

Liverpool are said to be interested in Uruguay star David Suarez. Suarez has been subject to interest from nearly every big club, particularly in light of his spectacular -- though controversial -- performance in the World Cup.

Ajax's financial difficulties may compel them to sell their captain -- and he may have helped secure his exit when he earned a seven-match ban for biting PSV's Otman Bakkal. His goal rate has also decreased, though 11 tallies in 22 matches is still respectable.

IRELAND TO FACE URUGUAY

Ireland are set to face Uruguay in a friendly. THE FAI have lined up a friendly with World Cup semi-finalists Uruguay for March of next year. The match will take place on Saturday, March 26th, four days after the Republic of Ireland meet Macedonia in the fifth qualifier of their European campaign.

URUGUAY GETS HEROS WELCOME

Uruguay national team received a heros welcome as they returned home from South Africa. Hundreds of thousands of Uruguayans followed and cheered the team in a long motorcade as they paraded along the sea promenade of the capital city, Montevideo, on Tuesday.

The players waved to the crowd from the bus, holding flags, some of them filming on their own camcorders to cherish this moment forever.

On the sides of the bus, a large banner summed up the nation's feeling: "Orgullo celeste", Spanish for "Light blue pride", referring to the colour of Uruguay's shirt.
